CAT-COLACEM: two reforestation initiatives for the environment and the well-being of the local community

Young people from the local area were involved in both initiatives.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, CAT continues to give concrete expression to its commitments in support of the environment and the well-being of the local community.

On Sunday, 11 January 2026, CAT funded a tree-planting initiative involving 500 carob trees, carried out in collaboration with the environmental association CAPTE on Mount Raf Raf (Djebel Nadhour). The initiative involved more than thirty young participants, contributing to the protection of the area and to raising environmental awareness among younger generations.

On Sunday, 18 January 2026, CAT successfully carried out a reforestation initiative at its Ben Arous quarry, in partnership with Soul and Planet. The initiative was attended by several CAT managers and by dozens of young people from Tunisia’s main scouting association, the Scouts Tunisiens.

The integration of reforestation activities into CAT’s CSR strategy forms part of efforts to offset a portion of CO₂ emissions and to rehabilitate quarries, which play a crucial role in biodiversity conservation and in reducing environmental impact.

Each tree planted represents CAT’s commitment to the future—a promise of renewal and resilience in the face of climate change.

Beyond mere regulatory compliance, the goal is to recreate a functional ecosystem and promote local biodiversity. This sustainable approach demonstrates that responsible extractive activity can coexist with the protection and restoration of quarry sites.

These initiatives reflect CAT’s determination to reconcile industrial activity with the safeguarding of natural heritage and with a commitment to an inclusive path firmly rooted in the sustainable development of the territory.
