This year, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UGTT, was celebrated at CAT under the theme “Stop the Deadly Dust”
This celebration was attended by representatives of the ILO, the national union (UGTT), the management and staff of CAT, led by Mr. Andrea Salinelli, as well as several local and regional guests.
During his speech, Mr. Andrea Salinelli emphasized that the ILO's decision to celebrate this World Day at CAT is a recognition of the continuous efforts made by our company to safeguard the safety and health of all its employees. He stated that this celebration is of great importance for CAT.
He pointed out that it is an opportunity for CAT to demonstrate its commitment to the health and safety of its employees, to enhance awareness on workplace safety, to promote a culture of accident and occupational disease prevention, and to encourage every employee to play an active role in promoting safety at work.
He concluded by stating that we must not accept paying for the right to work with human health and safety, just as we must not accept that economic growth comes at the expense of workers’ safety and health.
The ILO representative thanked CAT and noted that this day is part of an awareness campaign aimed at drawing international attention to the extent of the problem of workplace accidents, and at showing how promoting and creating a culture of safety and health can help reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries.
The UGTT representative stressed the role that trade unions must play in promoting a culture of occupational safety and health, and in ensuring that this topic is made a priority during social negotiations.
Several occupational safety and health specialists also spoke, explaining the consequences of air pollution on workers’ health and presenting measures to be taken to prevent workplace accidents.
