DOMICEM and USAID Agreement to promote peace and prevent violence in Sabana Grande de Palenque

The United States Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and DOMICEM, a leading cement production company in the Dominican Republic, recently announced the signing of an agreement aimed at strengthening a culture of peace, conflict management, and violence prevention in the municipality of Sabana Grande de Palenque, in the province of San Cristóbal.

This joint effort seeks to raise awareness within the community of Sabana Grande de Palenque by providing its residents with tools and techniques to address community issues, detect and prevent conflicts, while also strengthening comprehensive civic education.

The collaboration between USAID, through its Justice and Security Project, and DOMICEM reflects their shared commitment to finding long-term solutions to promote sustainable development in the Dominican Republic and build a prosperous future for its most vulnerable communities.

A Project for the Future

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16, which promotes access to justice for all.

"We are very proud to contribute to the development of our country through this partnership with USAID. This project is yet another example of our commitment to the Dominican Republic and to improving the quality of life of its citizens," said Adriano Brunetti, CEO of DOMICEM.

The planned actions aim to positively impact and benefit the municipality of Sabana Grande de Palenque by creating working groups to identify the challenges affecting the community and co-create solutions, including educational programs and youth empowerment initiatives that focus on their rights and responsibilities, with the ultimate goal of fostering harmonious coexistence within the community.

Furthermore, this partnership aims to engage 25 community organizations, train 50 leaders in needs assessment and project development to benefit the Sabana Grande de Palenque community.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Mr. Adriano Brunetti, CEO of DOMICEM; Stefano Pierotti, Administrative, Finance, and Control Director of DOMICEM; Arlette Fernández, Legal and Communications Manager; José Frank Cuello, USAID Specialist in Public-Private Partnerships in the Dominican Republic; Chris Thurlow, USAID Regional Economist in the D.R.; Lynette Batista, and Michel Camacho, Director and Deputy Director of USAID’s Justice and Security Project, respectively.
